It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a squad that has achieved everything.

The fact it required until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

In the end, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a chance to create her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her bow and seven world titles have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it was a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit activate and you simply focus on the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"A chance to play and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was out the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this championship should hear.

Over the past five days a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as leader.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
